ACTIVITIES OF MAGIE SAILING
Setting sail from the western coast of Sicily you arrive at the Egadi Islands: set in splendid crystal clear waters they are the largest Marine Protected Area in Europe, a destination for snorkelling and sailing lovers. The history of this part of Sicily is linked to the ancient tradition of tuna fishing, practiced with tuna traps, which can still be admired on these islands. Moorings are possible in the harbor or in some buoys in the Park. Docking ports on all islands.
FAVIGNANA:
Favignana is the main one of the small Sicilian archipelago and has the beautiful shape of a butterfly on the sea; the village is truly worth a walk in the characteristic square and along the street full of bars; Also worth visiting is the Florio building and the tuna fishery.
The bays where you can stop for a swim are the Grotta del Bue Marino, Cala Rossa, Punta Fanfalo, the Caves of Punta Faraglione, Lo Scoglio Corrente, Lido Burrone and Cala Azzurra; the latter is considered among the best known and most appreciated beaches on the island.
Cala Rotonda is a fantastic location from which to admire the "Arch of Ulysses", a particular natural stone arch.
LEVANZO:
Levanzo is the smallest of the three main islands that make up the Egadi archipelago; it is only 3 miles by boat from Favignana.
What more than anything else gives an aura of absolute uniqueness to the area is the presence of a vast quantity of limestone caves, hidden among the inlets of the rugged coast.
Cala Dogana is the point you arrive at once docked at the small port of Levanzo; the small huts grouped together in the village of the same name represent a fantastic panorama.
Cala Fredda can be reached both from land and sea, has a peculiar natural slide and a pebble beach.
Cala Minnola is loved by divers to admire the remains of an ancient Roman vessel
MARETTIMO:
Heading west you reach Marettimo, which is a couple of hours away from the other islands and is considered the wildest.
Marettimo, enchanting in its architectural homogeneity, is made up of houses in the shape of white cubes with colored windows crowded around the marina. From here you can take a suggestive walk up to Monte Falcone.
What characterizes it are its caves: not to be missed are the Grotta del Tuono, Grotta della Pipa and Punta Mugnone from which you reach the western coast, among dolomite rocks and extraordinary seabeds.
Cala Nera is perhaps the most beautiful beach on the island.
Another enchanting bay is Cala Bianca with its Punta Troia basin, the rock on which stands the picturesque castle, built by the Spanish in the 17th century, an ancient lookout point over the sea to protect the island.
ZINGARO RESERVE
Alicudi is a wild island, not easy to reach, but if you are lucky enough to discover it, it will be a huge gift: life still flows slowly among the colorful fishermen's boats offering very fresh fish. The colors are those of the Mediterranean and the shapes of the terraces. This island has fascinated many foreigners who have made it their home, far from the noise of the world, in search of the true essence of nature. It is a small pearl located in Sicily, in the western part of the Gulf of Castellamare. There aren't many words to describe it: with its postcard landscapes it absolutely must be visited at least once in your life. The area is very large and jagged, full of splendid coves where you can stop, such as Cala dell'Uzzo, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
ITINERARY from PALERMO:
The Egadi Islands are approximately 55 miles from the port of Palermo, that is, approximately 9 hours of navigation at an average speed of 6 knots.
Setting sail from Palermo on Saturday afternoon it is possible to stop in one of these places:
CASTELLAMARE DEL GOLFO
On the port there is the majestic Castello a mare, originally located on a rock spur connected to the mainland by a drawbridge. The best mood to discover the city and its magical atmosphere is to walk around the streets and stairways, looking for picturesque views and beautiful churches. The Port is the heart of the city, a place of extraordinary beauty, overlooked by bars, restaurants and nightclubs and where commercial life and the lively summer nightlife take place, a walk to the Castle is unmissable.
SAN VITO LO CAPO
San Vito lo Capo, located at the NW end of Sicily, is a truly pleasant town, equipped with both a port and a beautiful and comfortable harbor.
It is about twenty miles from the Egadi Islands and is known for its transparent turquoise waters and an unmissable gastronomic event: the couscous festival which takes place every year between September and October.
